Kiambu Man Who Set Himself Ablaze in Mombasa Has Died

A man who set himself on fire in Mombasa on Thursday has died. Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital chief administrator Iqbal Khandwalla said Robert Gituhu, 27, had 80 percent burns when he was rushed to the facility.
The ODM party has sent condolences to the family of the engineer who set himself on fire in Mombasa on Thursday. The young man, later identified as Robert Gituhu, 28, justified his drastic action in a video that went viral, blaming stolen poll results.
Mombasa County Chief Fire Officer Ibrahim Basafar said Gituhu suffered 80 percent burns after he doused himself with paraffin and set himself ablaze in Mwembe Tayari. The man was rescued by well-wishers moments after his body went up in flames and rushed to Coast General Hospital.
The family of Gituhu, from Kirangari area in Kiambu county, said he had been diagnosed with mental illness.
